The Open Space Zone seeks to provide for local park spaces which are characterised by informal outdoor recreational activities and community uses.
Generally, Open Space Zone areas contain limited buildings and structures which support people’s enjoyment of the public open space. The District Plan needs to provide for an appropriate level of development while protecting the amenity and openness of the Zone.
The Zone applies to areas of open space that are smaller in size and located in or near residential areas and typically are used by the local population for activities such as walking, running, cycling, relaxing and socializing, picnics, playing and enjoying the environment.
What are the key features proposed?
- Protecting and enhancing spaces used by locals for recreation and community activities with provision for buildings, structures and activities which benefit these uses.
- Protection of the natural, cultural and heritage values which may be attached to these spaces
